Incarcerated rapper Remy Ma has described her experience behind bars for a 2007 crime and how difficult it has been not getting to spend time watching her kids grow up.
Although her husband, rapper Papoose plays father, Remy said she still struggles with not being alongside family.
"I talk to them," Remy said referring to her two sons and two daughters. "Everything they do, they do it like I'm there. Like, if they having a party at the house, they take pictures, and they write on the back, like, "This is the picture. Your song just came on. [Not being with them every day], it hits them hard. I start crying. I have to tell them, 'It's all right. It's almost over. Be thankful that you're not one of the people whose mom is never coming home.'" (XXL Mag)
Reports from earlier this year claimed Remy would not be eligible for an early release unitl January 2015.
Remy Ma is currently serving an eight-year sentencestemming from 2008 convictions on assault, weapons possession and coercion charges. After losing her appealearlier this year, the rapstress, whose real name is Reminisce Smith, will have a parole hearing in September 2014 with an eligibility date set for January 31, 2015, according to court documents. If parole is denied, the 30-year-old, who began serving time on May 21, 2008, may remain in New York's Bedford Hills Correctional Facility for Women until March 23, 2016 - her sentence's maximum expiration date.
